The rear hanging is made up of three banners.
The two outside banners use the sun-treated fabric overlaid with ferns and hula implements. The hula implements reinforce the Hawaiian imagery found throughout the paraments, and the repetition of the ferns unifies the set. The fern motif is also emphasized by the overstitching near the center of each banner (which also draws attention away from the seam between two pieces of fabric).
The middle white banner was made by masking the center of the cloth in a sun ray pattern and then spraying it with spray paint in different shades of orange and yellow. This pattern suggests the natural sun rays that often play on the back wall during certain times of the morning.
