Since its 1739 premiere, Händel’s Israel in Egypt has been moving listeners with its epic story and striking imagery. The work’s genius lies in the way Händel musically paints the story of the Israelites’ escape to freedom. Using the chorus more than in any other oratorio, Händel depicts the ten plagues that fall on Egypt—from frogs to locusts!—and the triumphant celebration as the Israelites cross the Red Sea and find freedom. Don’t miss this Hawai‘i premiere featuring the choruses of the Lutheran Church of Honolulu and the Cathedral of St. Andrew.
