Pentecost—May 28, 2023

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Our first lesson tells about the first Pentecost, when there was a mighty wind, tongues of fire, and speaking in tongues. If church were like that every Sunday, it would be great fun. But the real point is that we each have God’s spirit with us; we are holy people full of the spirit and love.

Ascension of Our Lord (transferred)—May 21, 2023

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Today is Ascension Sunday, but what does that mean? Think of this balloon. If I blow it up, and then let go, it rises up, but the air is still here with us. At the Ascension Jesus says he is giving us the Holy Spirit. That Spirit ascends Jesus and is still available for us, just like the air we breathe.

Sixth Sunday of Easter—May 14, 2023

Preacher: Pastor Ruth Peterson
Summary: Here I have a piece of paper. Do you think I can cut a hole in it and pull it over my head? Probably not, but I promise I can do it. People don’t always keep their promises, but God does. (Pr. Peterson folds up the paper and cuts it so that it makes a big circle that fits over her head.) There are many promises from God in the Bible, and God always keeps those promises, just like I kept my promise to you.

Preacher: Pastor Bree Lloyd

Easter Sunday—April 9, 2023

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: I’ve got all the props for our story: wings for the angel, and staff for the shepherd, and a manger. Oops. I brought things for the wrong story. But it turns out we have many of the same characters. The angel still says “Be not afraid,” everyone is surprised, and they are sent to tell others. The angel tells them that Jesus is risen. And we also hear the message not to be afraid because Jesus is with us forever.
