Time after Pentecost • Lectionary 17—July 29, 2018

Preacher: Intern Pastor Andy Flatt-Kuntze
Summary: We just went on a journey over there and back, and now we’re hungry. I have this bag of M&Ms, and I’ll pass it around. Will it be enough? In our Gospel today, there were lots of hungry people, but one boy shared his food, and there was enough. I have this big bag of M&Ms, so there will be enough for everyone. We should remember that in God we always have enough.

Time after Pentecost • Lectionary 16—July 22, 2018

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: When I was young, I never wanted to rest and take a nap, and maybe you’re the same way. In today’s Gospel, Jesus and the disciples went to a deserted place to rest. Jesus knew that people need time to rest, just like God knew that we need rest and created the Sabbath. When we come to church, our prayers and our singing are part of that rest. This place and this day are your time to rest.

Time after Pentecost • Lectionary 15—July 15, 2018

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: In our first lesson, Amos uses a plumb line. You may not know that world, but it’s a way to tell is something is straight up and down. I can make a plumb line with this hammer and rope, and we can check if the walls in church are straight up and down. The people in Amos’ time were not following God, so he was sent to set them right. God calls us to love rightly and to show love and mercy to all people.

Time after Pentecost • Lectionary 14—July 8, 2018

A report from the recent ELCA Youth Gathering replaced this week’s children’s conversation.

Time after Pentecost • Lectionary 13—July 1, 2018

Preacher: Pastor David Barber
Summary: I’ve divided you into two groups. If I only spoke with one group and ignored the other, the first group might stop coming up for this conversation. Or maybe some of the second group would be so upset that you would break the rules and go to sit with the others. Sometimes it’s good to break the rules. The woman in our Gospel story breaks the rules to touch Jesus, and Jesus broke the rules to talk with her and heal her. When we see someone being treated unfairly, we need to be like Jesus and stand up for them

We expect this children’s conversation to be available soon.

Time after Pentecost • Lectionary 12—June 24, 2018

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: We’ve all had times when we were afraid. In today’s Gospel, Jesus and the disciples are in a boat when a big storm comes up. Jesus is asleep, and the frightened disciples wake him up. Jesus asks why they are afraid after all they have seen him do, and he calms the storm. Sometimes we just need someone to be with us when we are afraid. Jesus promises us that he will always be with us. Our faith in Jesus’ presence helps us through fearful times.

Time after Pentecost • Lectionary 11—June 17, 2018

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Our Vacation Bible School leaders shared a skit about a girl who is given a love ball that grows when it’s shared and shrinks when it’s not. At first she doesn’t share, but as the ball shrinks, she learns her lesson and shares the love. God has put love inside each of us. We need to share that love with everyone we meet and with the whole world
