Transfiguration of Our Lord—February 11, 2018
Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: When you see yellow caution tape, like the tape I just put up, you may not be sure what’s going on, but you know to be careful. Today is Transfiguration Sunday, and that word means change. In our Gospel, Jesus goes up the mountain, the disciples see him standing with Moses and Elijah in dazzling light, and they hear the voice. However, the most dangerous thing is that Jesus goes down the mountain to heal and bring the Good News to all kinds of people.

Fifth Sunday after Epiphany—February 4, 2018
Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: In today’s Gospel, Jesus visits Simon, whose mother-in-law is sick. Jesus heals her, and she gets up and serves them. There are many ways we can serve others, and some of them are shown in the pew cushions we have in church. God sends us out to serve in many different ways.

Fourth Sunday after Epiphany/Welcoming Sunday—January 28, 2018
Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: You know how good it feels when someone welcomes you to their home, and how bad if feels when they don’t welcome you. Years ago you were baptized and welcomed into the family of Christ. Baptism is God’s welcome to everyone, but sometimes we act like certain people aren’t welcome. But we cannot stop God’s love that welcomes everyone. On Welcoming Sunday we throw away anything that makes anyone feel unwelcome.

Third Sunday after Epiphany—January 21, 2018
Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Pastor Jeff shared with the children the story of the calling of the first disciples. Jesus was building the kingdom but he couldn’t do it alone. So single block was brought out and the kids razz could you build with just one block? And then a whole basket of blocks was given to the kids and they spent the rest of the service building their version of the kingdom (photo at right; click to enlarge).

Christmas Day—December 25, 2017
Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: My favorite thing about Christmas the wonderful crèche we have from the 1920s. But I also love the Christmas bells we hear ringing at this time of year. So I have a set of bells for each you bring you joy and remind you of Christ’s birth.

Fourth Sunday of Advent—December 24, 2017
Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Four candles are lit on the Advent wreath, so Christmas is almost here. In today’s Gospel, the angel tells Mary she will give birth to the baby Jesus, and she says, “Let it be according to your word.” There are many wonderful things about Christmas, I think saying yes to God is the best.

Third Sunday of Advent—December 17, 2017
Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: In today’s Gospel, John the Baptist clearly tells the people that he is not the Messiah. He is pointing to Jesus. John is like the pū (conch shell trumpet) that we use to tell people something important is going at happen. The pū is never the star of the show. It always points to something else.

Second Sunday of Advent—December 10, 2017
Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: There are four candles on our Advent wreath, and number two is called the “peace” candle. When you were young, you probably never asked for peace for Christmas, but our first lesson is all about peace for God’s people. We are thankful for God’s promise of peace.

First Sunday of Advent—December 3, 2017
Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Today is the First Sunday of Advent. The word “advent” means coming, like when someone comes to your house. When that happens you clean and get ready, and then you wait. You don’t want to fall asleep because the visitor might go away if you don’t answer the knock. Now, Jesus doesn’t care if our house is clean; Jesus loves us just as we are. We just need to be ready to welcome Jesus into our hearts.
