Transfiguration of Our Lord—February 26, 2017
Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: You know how a caterpillar changes into a butterfly through a process called metamorphosis. That’s the same word used in the original Greek to describe how Jesus changed from an ordinary person to a bright and shining being. The caterpillar changes to the butterfly it really is inside, and Jesus changes on the mountain top to show the disciples the reality of his being.

Seventh Sunday after Epiphany—February 19, 2017
Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells us to be perfect like God is perfect. The Greek word doesn’t mean “no mistakes”; it means “finished.” You tried to through the ball in this bucket and missed, but God still loves you. The way God helps us finish God’s kingdom is through love. We may miss the mark, but God’s kingdom is still coming.

Sixth Sunday after Epiphany—February 12, 2017
Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Over here you can see some caution tape that tells us there is some danger, so we shouldn’t go inside. Our lessons today are all about laws, and they also tell us where we shouldn’t go. The caution tape and God’s laws both keep us safe, and the law of God also points us to God’s love for us.

Fifth Sunday after Epiphany—February 5, 2017
Preacher: Pastor Phyllis Hormann
Summary: When we baptize children, we offer the parents a candle and say the words from today’s Gospel, “Let your light shine before others.” We see that light in people’s faces and in their lives when they show their faith and God’s love. Like the familiar song says, “This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.”

Fourth Sunday after Epiphany—January 29, 2017
Preacher: Pastor Steve Jensen
Summary: We see pictures of Jesus and symbols of the Holy Spirit around the Nave, but I can’t find one of God the Father. Some people say God is up in heaven, so I’m giving you some binoculars so you can take a look. I also have something else that can help you see God, this mirror. When we look in the mirror, we see something of God because we are all made in God’s image. And we can see God in the work of people who help others. When we love others, we find God in that action.

Third Sunday after Epiphany—January 22, 2017
Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: When Jesus called Peter, Andrew, James, and John, they all probably expect to be fishermen all of their lives. But they accepted Jesus’ call and got new jobs as people telling others about the love of God. All the different jobs you want to do are good, but your first calling is as children beloved of God.

Second Sunday after Epiphany—January 15, 2017
Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Today we remember the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. He was a preacher named after Martin Luther, a good name if you’re going to change the world. Back then black people couldn’t do many things, and Martin Luther King, acting from his faith and sense of justice, invited people to see a new world of love and justice. It was like Jesus in our Gospel today who invited people to see what God was up to.

Baptism of Jesus—January 8, 2017
Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Today we remember the baptism of Jesus by John. When Jesus came up out of the water, a dove descended and a voice said, “You are my child, my beloved.” We sometimes need to be reminded of our baptism and that we are beloved of God. So let’s go and bless everyone here with water from the font.

Advent IV—December 18, 2016
Preacher: Pastor Don Johnson
Summary: Today we have a visit from St. Nicholas. He was a pastor and bishop more than 1600 years ago who signed the Nicene Creed and helped compile the Bible. He surprised people with gifts. Nicholas, the gift giver, lives in our hearts when we understand the blessings of giving gifts.

Advent III—December 11, 2016
Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Today we continue looking at characters from the Bible with R for Rachel. She was the beautiful daughter of Laban that Jacob fell in love with. He had to work 7 years to marry first her older sister Leah and then 7 more years to marry her. They were the mothers of the 12 tribes of Isrzel.

Advent I—November 27, 2016
Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Today we continue looking at characters from the Bible with P for Phoebe. She is only mentioned briefly in 1 Thessalonians, whose writer was grateful that Phoebe was a supporter of the church there. She’s not famous, but she reminds us how important the work is of every one of us who works in the church.
