‘Imi Loa: Natalie Mitchell and Jasmine NaganoNew Hawai‘i-based duo ‘Imi Ola (to seek life in its highest form) will transform us through the music of Queen Lili‘uokalani, Alban Berg, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and others. You will be serenaded by the transcendent soprano voice of Natalie Mitchell collaborating with the vibrant piano skills of Jasmine Nagano. They will take you on a journey through art songs from around the world and provide you with an unforgettable evening.

All are invited to gather for pūpū in the Hörmann Courtyard and 6:15 pm. The concert is free, with a suggested donation $20. In addition, we will continue to collect packaged, unopened dry goods (e.g., cereal, flour, sugar, pasta, etc.) and canned food donations for the Angel Network at each concert.

First Mondays: For Love of ‘Ukulele • Mon., Oct. 2, at 7:00 pm

This concert will flow through a variety of musical genres, and the artists will also share with us demonstrations of solo ‘ukulele styles and repertoire from the 1940s, as compared to those of the present. Come join us for this unique experience.

First Mondays: A Journey through the Ages from Bach to Barber • Mon., Sept. 11, at 7:00 pm

An orchestra of outstanding local musicians led by Alexander Peña will be joined by soloists Helen Liu (violin), Alex Hayashi (oboe), and Kathleen Long (cello). The program includes Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber (1910–1981), Concerto for Violin and Oboe in c minor, bwv 1060r, by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685–1750), Klid (Silent Woods or Waldesruhe), Op. 68, by Antonin Dvorak (1841–1904), and Siegfried Idyll, wwv 103, by Richard Wagner (1813–1883).

To honor the day, Duane Padilla and friends weave a lei of favorite songs by Queen Liliʻoukalani arranged for string quartet. The arrangements were created by Duane Padilla, and he will be performing them along with Daniel Padilla, Alex Peña, and Heewon Lee. They will be joined by world-renowned guitarist Jeff Peterson and students from Hawai’i Youth Opera Chorus presenting traditional mele. Get ready for an exciting program!

Holiday Horn Spectacular graphicHorns go-a-caroling!!!! Join us for the Lutheran Church of Honoluluʻs First Mondays Chamber Concerts Horn Quartet performance. We will be getting festive with a variety of holiday tunes. Come ready to join in singing along with your favorite carol! To start spreading Holiday Cheer there will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes for the most-festively-dressed audience member.

Our artists for the evening are Marie Lickwar, Jamie Sanborn, Rory Onishi, and Colton Hironaka. They all believe in the words of Buddy the Elf, “The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.”

NEW DATE: Frightful Fête! • Monday, October 17, @ 7:00 pm

Frightful Fête! graphicPlease join us for an evening full of fun and scary songs and stories! Our October First Mondays concert will feature musical theater, opera, art song, and solo piano that spans the centuries, from 17th century composer Henry Purcell to current Broadway composer Andrew Lippa. This concert will be performed by two of LCH’s own choir section leaders, as well as our wonderful colleagues from Hawaiʻi Opera Theater and BYUH Hawaiʻi. Come hear some Beetlejuice and Grunchin’ Witch!, featuring Catherine Morris, soprano, Melissa Walker Glenn, mezzo-soprano, Brian Minnick, tenor, Robert Feng, bass, and Jennifer Duerden, piano.
