No Children’s Conversation
Lent V—March 25, 2012
Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: In today’s first lesson, the prophet tells the people that God will make a new covenant. A covenant is an agreement, and you know about God’s covenants with Noah and Abraham and God’s covenant in the Ten Commandments. People did not do well with those agreements, so God makes a new covenant in the shape of the cross, a new covenant in Jesus. In Jesus God loves all of us, no matter what.

Lent IV—March 18, 2012
Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: In today’s Gospel, we hear the famous verse John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that God gave God’s only Son.” Now Jesus said this to Nicodemus, a teacher who was afraid people would find out he was a follower of Jesus. So Nicodemus was afraid and kept this verse secret. But Jesus wants all of us and all of you to tell people about God’s love.

Lent III—March 18, 2012
Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: In today’s first lesson, we heard the Ten Commandments. One of the most important is to remember the Sabbath. It tells us that God created the world in six days and then rested. God gives us the Sabbath as a gift so we can rest and worship. So, each Sunday, we need to rest and remember God.

Lent II—March 4, 2012
Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: In today’s Gospel, the disciples are excited to be with Jesus, but he tells them that he will suffer and die. Then Jesus goes on to say that whoever finds their life will loose it, and whoever looses their life for God’s sake will find it. I have a conch shell here. It’s dead, but once it was alive with a snail inside. Here in Hawai‘i we call this a pu, and we use it to announce something important. When we blow through it, it gets our attention.

Lent I—February 26, 2012
Preacher: Pastor Jeff Lilley
Summary: Today we heard the story of Noah and the Flood. At that time, people were bad, so God sent a flood, but Noah built an ark to save his family and the animals. After the flood, God promised never again to destroy the world with a flood, and God put the rainbow in the sky as a symbol of that promise. So, when you see the rainbow, remember the promise God made to all creation. But God also made a promise to you in baptism that you are a child of God. So, whenever you feel the rain on your head, remember the promise God made to you in baptism.
